"Erin's voice is already very mature and well used. I have no criticism to make!"
Neil Jenkins - Adjudicator Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts 2011
Hello I am Erin Hughes. Welcome to my website!
I have been singing since I was a small girl at school in Cheltenham. I am now a 19 year old soprano, passionate about opera and classical music.
In August 2011 I made my professional debut in Mexico City performing the role of "Flora" in The Turn of the Screw, conducted by Jan Latham-Koenig and directed by Michael McCaffrey, and in autumn 2012 I sang the role of Emmie in Britten's Albert Herring with English Touring Opera, conducted by Michael Rosewell and directed by Chris Rolls. In spring I covered the same role for Opera North.
My singing career started at Dean Close School where I was a chorister. I have performed in many prestigious venues including Notre Dame Cathedral, Covent Garden and Westminster Abbey. In 2010 I was a finalist in the BBC Young Chorister of the Year competition which took place in St Paul's Cathedral. You can hear the song that I sang here:
In addition to my professional roles, I have also performed in Carmen and Bastien and Bastienne at the Playhouse Theatre in Cheltenham, as well as Sweeney Todd at the Longborough Festival last summer. This summer I will play Sister Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, for which I will also be the vocal director.
In addition to my passion for opera and classical music I have had roles in musical theatre including The Boyfriend and Les Misérables and I have supported Derek Paravicini in concert. I am also the resident soloist with the Cirencester Male Voice Choir.
